Pie Recipes With N.C. Products

The recipes developed for this story are meant to salute North Carolina farm products, while adding a few new elements to enhance the flavors and great selection grown in state.

And while there’s nothing like a homemade pie crust, we won’t tell if you use store-bought – the fillings are the stars for these recipes.

Tart Lemon Meringue Pie

Speaking of poultry, the state also comes in as one of the nation’s top producers of eggs. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy them than in Tart Lemon Meringue Pie. I like this particular recipe because in addition to using the egg whites for a fluffy meringue, the yolks don’t go to waste – they’re used in the lemony filling. I also prefer to highlight the lemons with a more tart flavor, but if you’d rather have a sweeter pie, add an extra tablespoon of sugar to the filling.

I tried to send an article idea to the address you have in the magazine ncfieldfamily.org/story and it’s saying not a valid address. Do you have another address because I don’t want to retype what I have already typed via this comment.

I love Field and Family- the new NC Farm Bureau magazine. The articles are well written and interesting and I love the recipe section. Can hardly wait to try this month’s lemon pie. Vivian Howard’s recipes are always great.

I don’t know who decided to update magazine but GREAT idea! Hit a home run!!
