September 2004 Recipe of the Month: Dill Pickles Made Sweet


  • 4 ½ cups sugar
  • ½ cups vinegar
  • 1 gallon whole dill pickles
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar
  • 3 cups water


  1. Drain all liquid from pickles. Rinse with water and drain again. Slice, dice or cut as desired.
  2. Meanwhile, mix and bring remaining ingredients to a boil. Pour liquid over pickles, cool and refrigerate, or seal jars and store without refrigeration. You may also add sweet pickle spices before sealing.
