On the Local Level Winter 2018-19
Take a look at what’s happening with the North Carolina Farm Bureau across the state this winter:
Congratulations to the 10 students across the state who received the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship, North Carolina Farm Bureau’s top academic award.
Since it began in 1967, the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship Program has given more than $3 million in scholarship money to ag students.
University recipients were Jacob Russell Barber of Bladen County; Coleman Lee Berry of Richmond County; John Brooks Edmondson, Jr. of Greene County; Haylee LeAnn May of Ashe County; Stephen Kenneth Pierpoint of Cumberland County; and Tommy Joe Swann, Jr. of Harnett County. Community college recipients were Katelyn Diane Batchelor of Chatham County; Taylor Lane Glover of Wayne County; Hunter Cameron Thomas of Harnett County; and Johannes Cornelius Van Essendelft of Beaufort County.
For students attending a four-year university, the renewable scholarship is valued at $4,000 per year, totaling $16,000 over the four years for expenses including tuition, books and more. For those attending community college, the renewable scholarship is valued at $1,000 per year for two years of study, totaling $2,000. It helps pay for books, tuition and other expenses.
