Southeast Old Threshers’ Reunion

Enjoy the largest steam, gas and antique farm machinery in the Southeast. No need to head to the North Pole to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus this summer. He will be making an appearance at the Christmas in July festival in downtown West Jefferson. The annual celebration, which started in 1987, draws thousands each year and helps promote tourism in Ashe County.

The event celebrates area’s Christmas tree industry with fun competitions, more than 20 mouthwatering food vendors, live music and a visit from Mrs. Claus and Santa himself.

Fireworks Over Historic Spencer Shops

July 1, 2023, Spencer

Enjoy a night of family fun at the N.C. Transportation Museum at the free Fireworks Over Historic Spencer Shops event on Saturday, July 1. The museum buildings and exhibits close at 5 p.m., and activities begin at 7 p.m. and wrap up with the fireworks show beginning at 9:15 p.m.

On display will be the Ride of Pride trucks from Daimler Trucks North America’s Cleveland, North Carolina, plant. Activities include a balloon twister, DJ music, cornhole and other lawn games. Guests are invited to take a ride in a World War II-era Dodge Weapons Carrier (small fee). All other activities are free. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Food Vendors include Roadway dogs, The Old 97 Kettle Corn and Chill Shak.

Tweetsie Railroad Fireworks Extravaganza

July 4, Blowing Rock

Head to the North Carolina High Country this summer for a spectacular Fourth of July fireworks show at Tweetsie Railroad. Before the evening show, visitors can enjoy a day of rides and attractions in the park. Tweetsie Railroad will open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. after the park closes. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the stunning show under the stars.

North Carolina Blackberry Festival

Take your pick! There is a full weekend filled with events at the North Carolina’s Blackberry Festival. There will be live music, pageants and activities in honor of the beautiful blackberry.

July 14-16 and Aug. 11-3, 2023, Sugar Mountain

Unique, handcrafted wares and masterful fine art combine to bring this one-of-a-kind festival to western North Carolina. Held at Sugar Mountain Resort, the festival will take place over two weekends this summer. Festival-goers can browse and purchase photography, sculptures, jewelry, pottery, candles, wood furniture and much more.

The free event benefits the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and takes place both weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

North Carolina Peach Festival

July 13-15, 2023, Candor

For more than 20 years, the North Carolina Peach Festival has celebrated the century-long peach-growing history of Montgomery County. Held each year on the third weekend in July, the festival includes live entertainment, food vendors, arts and crafts, and plenty of peaches. There’s even a cooking contest where you can see if your favorite peach recipe wins top honors. Bounce houses, a petting zoo and pony rides will keep the kids happy as well.

This year’s festival will feature a parade, opening ceremony and countless entertainment performances.

Celebrity Car & Truck Show

July 29, 2023, Spencer

Replicas of your favorite cars that were stars in movies and film will be displayed during this event at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer. The event offers great photo opportunities and a chance to talk with those who have put in the hard work to create these awesome replicas.
