Check out five North Carolina farms where you can meet these friendly, fiber-producing creatures.
Margaret Littman |Apple Hill Farm isn’t the only option for exploring North Carolina’s alpaca agritourism. Some of the mountain topography of the state is similar to that of Peru, where alpacas are from, but alpacas are being raised all over the state (and the country). Check out five North Carolina alpaca farms where you can meet these friendly, fiber-producing creatures. For more ideas, download the Visit NC Farms app at visitncfarmstoday.com.

Call ahead to schedule a tour Wednesdays to Saturdays. Cost is $5 per person.
Most farms prefer that you book your tour in advance and come prepared. Wear clothing appropriate for walking on a working farm – that means closed-toe shoes good for trekking through mud and muck. Don’t bring your family dog (or other pets) on an agritourism outing.
